Honoring our veterans
First photo: Miyoko Suda and daughter, Mavis Suda, pose Wednesday morning at Maui Veterans Cemetery with a memorial plaque presented on behalf of the Republic of Korea in honor of Miyoko’s husband, Michael Suda, who passed away in February. Michael Suda served in the Korean War as a U.S. Army sergeant. The plaque was presented by Korean War Veterans Association Maui No Ka Oi Chapter 282 members Lloyd Sodetani (right) and Robert “Sam” Fevella. The presentation was held after a small, brief Veterans Day ceremony in which flowers were placed at the cemetery’s memorials for World War I, World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans. The usual Veterans Day memorials were canceled this year due to COVID-19.
