The Judicial Selection Commission is seeking applications and nominations for an expected circuit judge vacancy in Maui's 2nd Circuit Court.
Applicants must be residents and citizens of the state of Hawaii and the U.S. and have been licensed to practice law by the Hawaii Supreme Court. A circuit judge needs to have been licensed for no less than 10 years preceding nomination. Judges can't engage in the practice of law, or run for or hold any other office or position of profit during their term.
Circuit judges in Hawaii serve a term of 10 years, with an annual salary of $209,088. Judges must retire once they reach 70 years of age.
The Chief Justice has the discretion to make assignments of calendars among the circuit judges under Hawaii law.
Full-time judges also receive employer contributions to premiums for enrollment in the state-sponsored medical, drug, vision and dental plans; a free life insurance policy; state retirement benefits; a deferred compensation supplemental retirement savings plan; 13 paid holidays annually (14 days during election years); 21 vacation and 21 sick leave days per year. Benefits are subject to modification or termination due to changes in the law.

The application must be postmarked to the following address on or before March 18: Commission Chair Ronette M. Applications should be sent in by regular mail, not via FedEx, UPS and/or certified mail. Any mail requiring a signature may be sent back, and applicants run the risk of missing the deadline.
If applicants have previously applied for a different judicial position after January, they should call the commission office at (808) 538-5200 and leave a message, or submit an email to judselect.comm@courts.hawaii.gov to determine what form they will need.
Anyone wanting to nominate qualified candidates for the position should mail their nomination to the commission's address with the nominee's full name and mailing address no later than Feb. 1.
