WAILUKU -- A woman was arrested Saturday for allegedly squatting at a school in Paia.
Kami Ramirez Quevado, 23, was charged with second-degree burglary of the school from March 16 to Saturday and fourth-degree theft.
She was arrested in a classroom at Doris Todd Christian Academy after allegedly stealing property including food and alcohol wipes from another classroom, Deputy Prosecutor Lewis Littlepage said during Ramirez Quevado's initial appearance Monday in Wailuku District Court.
While the prosecution asked for her bail to be increased from $1,000 to $6,000, Deputy Public Defender Gustavo Gonzalez asked for Ramirez Quevado to be released.
He said she has been on Maui for one month and was looking for work through Hawaii Job Corps.
Judge Kirstin Hamman ordered that Ramirez Quevado be released on supervision. She also was ordered to stay away from Doris Todd Christian Academy, as well as its students and staff.
