County to discuss DACA eligibility

Maui County is offering a virtual event for community members, school counselors or others interested in learning more about the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

The event will take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. March 24 and is sponsored by the Immigrant Services Division, the Department of Housing and Human Services announced.

Known widely as DACA, the federal program protects immigrants who were brought to the U.S. by their parents and now reside in the country without lawful status. The program allows the program recipients, known as Dreamers, to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and become eligible for a work permit in the U.S.

Topics for the virtual event will include program eligibility, qualifications and requirements. Space is limited.

To RSVP, contact Margaret Santos at the Maui County Immigrant Services Division at 270-7117 or email

immigrant.services@co.maui.hi.us no later than 4 p.m. March 17. A BlueJeans videoconference meeting link will be provided to those who reserve a space.
