DOE reports 8 cases at county schools
Eight more students at Maui County public schools have tested positive for COVID-19, the state Department of Education said Friday.
Three cases were confirmed in the Hana-Lahainaluna-Lanai-Molokai Complex on Thursday; two students were from the same household, while a third case was not connected. The DOE said transmission did not occur on campus. There have been 47 cases in the complex since June 26.
Three cases were also confirmed among students in the Baldwin-Kekaulike-Maui Complex on Feb. 27, Wednesday and Thursday.
Two other students in the complex also tested positive for the virus; one has not been on campus all school year, and the other hasn’t been on campus since March 2020, the DOE said. Both cases were confirmed Feb. 26.
There have now been 45 cases in the complex since June 26.
Over the past week, 14 cases were confirmed at DOE schools, including five on Oahu, one on Hawaii island and none on Kauai. Three were employees and the rest were students.
DOE schools have had 547 total cases from June 26 through Friday. The department does not specify schools in its weekly report.
