2 taken to hospital after house fire

Two residents were transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center to be treated for possible smoke inhalation after a fire early Monday that caused an estimated $300,000 damage to a Waikapu residence, according to the Maui Fire Department.

The fire was reported at 12:41 a.m. on Keilio Place.

Wailuku and Kahului engine companies responded, along with Kahului rescue and hazmat companies.

"Crews arrived on scene to find a pretty substantial fire that was well knocked down by residents utilizing garden hoses," the Fire Department reported.

Firefighters confirmed all occupants were out of the house and brought the fire under control at 1:22 a.m. It was extinguished at 3:37 a.m.

The cause was undetermined.
