Commission to discuss Central Maui

1 min read

The Maui County Charter Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. today to discuss the areas of Na Wai 'Eha, Kahului and Pu'unene.

The commission convenes every 10 years to review the Maui County Charter, the guiding document for local government. Over the next couple of months, the commission will hold meetings to gather public input on the charter and county operations.

In lieu of going to different areas of Maui as the commission has in the past, the commission is designating different areas of Maui to encourage each community to come and share their recommendations, though anyone may attend and testify.

Upcoming meetings will focus on:

• Molokai, 6 p.m. April 15.

• Hamakua/East Maui/Kahikinui, 6 p.m. May 6.

• South Maui/Upcountry/Kahoolawe, 6 p.m. May 20.

• West Maui/Lanai, 6 p.m. June 3.

Members of the public can tune in to today's virtual meeting at bluejeans.com/422626 918.

They can also submit recommendations in writing at any time to charter.commission@mauicounty.gov.

The commission first met on March 18 and elected Lance Collins as chairman and Grant Chun as vice-chairman.
