Jayson Dela Cruz during Thursday’s Hawaii Army National Guard 230th Engineering Company training exercise outside the Anthony Kahoohanohano Hawaii Army National Guard Armory. The exercise simulating a suicide bomb attack at a forward outpost’s entry checkpoint was part of an annual two-week training that also included constructing Jersey barriers that weigh about a ton apiece. With many of the 230th’s soldiers deployed to the Task Force Maui coronavirus response, this year’s training included a smaller contingent.
