Affordable housing rally set for Monday

An affordable housing rally will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. Monday to call on county government to come together to build the homes that residents need and can afford.

A press conference will start at 12:15 p.m. in front of the Maui County building, according to a news release from rally organizers Stand Up Maui, Maui Tomorrow and Share Your Mana.

Participants can join at Ka’ahumanu Church in Wailuku and Ka’ahumanu Avenue fronting the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center in Kahului.

The rally is being held in advance of the 1:30 p.m. meeting of the Maui County Council’s Affordable Housing Committee, which will review the just-released Comprehensive Affordable Housing Plan, which was created by Hawaiian Community Assets and can be accessed at mauihousingplan.org.

Assistance is available to those who want to provide remote testimony at the meeting.

Rally organizers are also inviting people to share their housing stories by clicking “Join Us” at standupmaui.org.
