WAILUKU -- A couple of hours after being arrested Wednesday for stealing a sport utility vehicle in Wailuku, a woman was arrested again when she was found in the driver's seat of the same vehicle, according to police.
Alia Tesorio, 40, was charged with attempted unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.
She was arrested when the owner of the 2011 Toyota FJ Cruiser called police at 4:41 p.m. Wednesday and reported Tesorio was in the vehicle parked on Hookahi Street in Wailuku, according to a declaration filed in court to support the charges.
The vehicle had been reported stolen from the same location between July 6 and Wednesday, when it was found in Waiehu at noon. Tesorio was arrested at 3:05 p.m. Wednesday after an investigation showed she had the vehicle on Saturday, according to the declaration. She admitted she had stolen the vehicle before being released pending further investigation, police said.
After being released, Tesorio walked to Hookahi Street, saw the unlocked vehicle and entered it, she told police after being arrested the second time, according to the declaration. She told police she was looking for the keys when the owner arrived and called police.
Bail had been set at $1,000 but was reduced to $500 at the request of the prosecution when she made an initial appearance Thursday in Wailuku District Court.
Tesorio was ordered to have no contact with the vehicle owner and to stay away from the location where the vehicle was parked.
