24 more inmates test positive at jail

Another 24 inmates have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Maui Community Correctional Center, bringing the total to 84 active cases among inmates and staff.

The Department of Public Safety on Thursday reported the 24 positive cases, as well as 129 negative test results. One result was inconclusive, with the inmate being retested.

The number of active COVID cases among jail staff remained at 17.

The recent outbreak at the Wailuku jail follows a COVID cluster of 94 inmates and two staff members from February to April.
