Doctors on Call registered nurse Mary Ann Navares prepares to do a COVID-19 test Wednesday at the Kahului testing site as a long line of vehicles holding people waiting to be tested stretches in the background. Kula’s Sherman Baisa said he waited in the line for an hour and half to be tested. “Am I frustrated, you bet,” he said. Baisa said though he was fully vaccinated, he was a close contact of a co-worker who has been diagnosed with the disease. “I have a loving family and I don’t want to give it to my grandkids or my wife. So now I’m going to quarantine myself.” On Thursday, the state Department of Health reported 655 confirmed and probable cases in the state, the highest daily total since the beginning of the pandemic. Maui island had 69 confirmed and probable cases. There were none on Molokai and Lanai.

Starting at $4.62/week.
