Rain muddies waters off west, north shores

The state Department of Health canceled a brown water advisory for the entire island of Maui but issued a new one for the north shore from Maliko to Waihee and in West Maui from Honolua to Honokowai.

Heavy rain resulted in stormwater runoff entering coastal waters, the department said Wednesday. The public should stay out of floodwaters and stormwater runoff due to possible pathogens, chemicals and debris.

While not all coastal areas may be impacted by runoff, the department warned that people should stay out if the water is brown, continue to practice good personal hygiene and follow up with their physicians if they have any health concerns.
