A salute to those who served

The Maui News MATTHEW THAYER photos

FIRST PHOTO: Korean War Veterans Association Maui No Ka Oi Chapter 282 members salute during the playing of taps at the conclusion of Thursday morning’s Veterans Day ceremony at Maui Veterans Cemetery in Makawao. A moment of silence was held during the event in honor of Chapter 282 charter member Tommy Sato who recently passed away. President Robert “Sam” Fevella said the years are taking a toll on the club’s membership. “You can see, little by little, we’re just fading away,” Fevella said. “We’re down to about 30 people. We need new blood.” Fevella encouraged veterans who served during or after the Korean War to consider joining the club.
