South Maui District Office now open to the public

South Maui's first County Council District Office opened its doors to the public last week, Council Member Kelly Takaya King announced.
The office is located in Suite 9 of the Maui Economic Development Board Building at the Maui Research and Technology Park at 1305 North Holopono St.
"The new Kihei District Office gives South Maui residents a nearby place to stop in, connect to the business of the County Council, and receive essential information for being citizens engaged in the council's legislative process," King, who holds the South Maui residency seat, said in a news release. "In the coming weeks, the location will be fully furnished with the capability to support individuals who would like to provide remote testimony to the County Council and its committees."
Funding for the South Maui District Office was included in the county's fiscal year 2022 budget. The office is open to all members of the public from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the exception of federal and state holidays.
The office will follow COVID-19 protocols, with visitors required to wear a mask or face covering and maintain a minimum of 6 feet physical distance from others at all times. Capacity may be limited as needed to ensure adequate physical distancing. Symptomatic or sick individuals should stay home.
King and her staff are all fully vaccinated, according to the news release.
Daniel Kanahele, a South Maui resident and longtime community advocate, has been hired to staff the district office and joins King's team of Axel Beers, Ellen McKinley and Sarah Sexton.
