73 negative tests reported at jail

The state Department of Public Safety reported 73 negative COVID-19 tests among 28 staff and 45 inmates at the Maui Community Correctional Center as it ramped up testing after an employee contracted the virus.

The employee, whose positive test result was reported Monday, is isolating at home and won't return to work until cleared by the state Department of Health, a Public Safety spokesperson said. The Health Department is conducting contact tracing and investigation at the Wailuku jail.
