FIRST PHOTO: Kalama Intermediate School Principal Dr. Timothy Lino sinks a basket at the end of Friday’s blessing ceremony for the school’s new 10,300-square-foot covered playcourt on the Makawao campus. Lino said the $3.1 million facility was 20 years in the making and that it will be a great resource for the school where inclement weather often poses challenges for outdoor activities. Also in attendance were former Kalama Intermediate principals John Costales and Tim Shim. The structure with eight retractable basketball hoops, bird netting, portable stage and a capacity of 814 people, is scheduled to be open to the school’s students when they return from winter break.
