WAILUKU -- A Kahului woman was arrested Wednesday night after she allegedly assaulted her husband with a knife during an argument in their home.
Maria Piskova, 47, of Kahului was charged with second-degree assault and abuse.
During her initial appearance Thursday in Wailuku District Court, Deputy Prosecutor Jeffery Temas asked that her bail be lowered to $2,000 from the $3,000 set by police.
She was arrested after police were called to the couple's unit at Harbor Lights Condominium at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, arriving to find "blood splattered everywhere on the floor," Temas said.
He said officers saw Piskova's husband with cuts, including a puncture on his arm, and recovered a 7-inch knife.
The husband reported he was cut on the back of both arms while trying to move around Piskova's wheelchair as she swung the knife, according to a declaration filed in court to support the charges.
He was treated at the scene by medics, according to the declaration.
In addition to asking that Piskova have no contact with her husband, Temas asked that she be ordered not to consume alcohol or illegal drugs, noting that a police report alleged she had consumed alcohol and marijuana earlier in the evening.
Temas said the prosecution was concerned that Piskova might be a flight risk, referring to an unserved District Court bench warrant.
Deputy Public Defender William Pannell said Piskova wasn't aware of the warrant.
He asked for her to be released on supervision, saying she is disabled and in a wheelchair.
Judge Blaine Kobayashi granted the prosecution's request to set bail at $2,000.
