Makena church hosts Blessing of Animals

The annual “Blessing of the Animals” ceremony is set for 10 a.m. Dec. 11 at Keawala’i Congregational Church in Makena.

Churches celebrate the blessing of animals in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures. Readings, prayers and a blessing will be offered as well as pictures with Santa.

Arrangements for the day will consider the needs of the various animals and includes dogs, cats, birds, hamsters, rabbits or any other pets. Dogs must be leashed, and other animals must be safely contained.

This year’s event will include precautions due to COVID-19 with masks and social distancing.

Holiday craft fair, bake sale at Keawala’i

A craft fair and bake sale is scheduled for 11 a.m. Dec.12 under the pavilion at Keawala’i Congregational Church in Makena after the Sunday morning service.

Proceeds from the fair and bake sale will support outreach work.

Grants are provided year-round for individuals and families throughout Maui County.

This year’s event will include precautions due to COVID-19 with masks and social distancing.
