Volunteers clean South Maui beach

1 min read

Volunteers from the local nonprofit What Makes You Feel Beautiful cleaned a stretch of beach from Kealia Coastal Boardwalk to Sugar Beach in Kihei as part of "Giving Tuesday" on Nov. 30.

"About 18 people showed up to volunteer," said Monica Marrow, founder and executive director of the nonprofit. "Way more was needed for the vast amount of trash on this beautiful beach. But this was our first beach cleanup project and we put it together in a hurry to honor this day.

The next cleanup we hold will be a lot bigger."

The volunteers picked up enough trash to fill four truck beds.

"Everybody was in such great spirits," Marrow said. "Mahalo to all who were involved. Frankly, we can't wait to do it again."

What Makes You Feel Beautiful is a Maui-based organization that provides educational workshops and classes and personal development programs that focus on the needs of women between the ages of 18 and 35.
