WAILUKU — Police arrested a woman who allegedly burglarized a Wailuku residence Tuesday, eating food and showering while the resident wasn’t home.
Kayli Palmer, 30, who gave no local address, was charged with first-degree burglary and habitual property crime.
During her initial appearance Wednesday in Wailuku District Court, Deputy Prosecutor Lewis Littlepage asked for bail to remain at $5,000 for Palmer.
She has prior convictions for second-degree burglary, first- and second-degree criminal trespassing, simple trespassing, four counts of disorderly conduct, fourth-degree theft and two counts of harassment, Littlepage said.
Palmer asked to be released from custody, with Deputy Public Defender David Pullman saying there was no amount of bail she could post.
Judge Blaine Kobayashi kept bail at $5,000, citing Palmer’s prior convictions and the alleged facts of the case.
According to a declaration filed in court to support the charges, Palmer entered the residence on South High Street through the garage while no one was home at about 5 p.m. Tuesday. When the resident returned home at about 5:25 p.m. and found Palmer in the hallway, she ran while wearing a shirt belonging to the resident, according to the declaration.
Police arrested Palmer after responding to a trespassing call at 3:17 a.m. Wednesday at 758 Lower Main St. in Wailuku.
