34 inmates recover, active cases at 118

The number of active COVID-19 cases at the Maui Community Correctional Center declined to 114 inmates and four staff after 34 inmates recovered from the virus, the state Department of Public Safety reported Tuesday.

Three negative inmate test results were also reported Tuesday, a day after the department reported 65 positive inmate tests and two positive staff member tests, putting the cluster at the Wailuku jail at 155 cases.

The cluster had its first inmate case reported Jan. 3 and has already grown bigger than the two outbreaks reported at the jail last year.
