AARP Foundation will offer free income tax preparation at sites in Kihei and Kahului beginning Feb. 15.
Due to COVID-19 precautions, people must make appointments to have their taxes done.
Appointments will be taken by Kaunoa Senior Center at (808) 270-7308 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. starting Tuesday.
Those having their taxes done will be required to pick up packets several days in advance to take home and complete before returning for their appointments. At their appointment time, taxpayers will be instructed to drop off their documents and wait outside in their cars while the returns are prepared.
All taxpayers must have a cellphone so they can be called in case there are questions during the preparation of their returns and to be notified when their returns are ready.
No walk-ins will be allowed and people will not be permitted to arrive early and wait in line. Masks and social distancing will be required, as well as compliance with all county emergency rules.
