Corrected data show higher booster rate, decrease in completed vaccinations

Revised COVID-19 vaccination data — which had to be corrected after some Johnson & Johnson shots were incorrectly reported as second doses rather than boosters — show an increase in boosters administered but a decrease in vaccinations completed.
The state Department of Health said Monday that it revised the data after conducting a review of vaccination reporting, resulting in a decrease in the percentage of the overall population that has completed its primary vaccine series from 75.5 percent Friday to 74.4 percent Monday. The largest decrease was seen among those ages 50 to 64, where the percentage fell from 90.2 percent completed Friday to 88.2 percent completed Monday.
With the corrections, the current percentage of the population that has received a booster increased from 31.4 percent Friday to 33.1 percent Monday.
The most significant increase was among older age groups — the percentage of people ages 65 to 74 who have received booster doses increased from 65.4 percent Friday to 69 percent Monday. The percentage of those ages 75 and older has increased from 69.4 percent Friday to 70.9 percent Monday.
The revisions came after some booster doses administered to people who had received an initial Johnson & Johnson vaccine were reported as second doses completing a vaccination series rather than booster doses, the department explained. These doses are now correctly recorded as booster doses.
Johnson & Johnson only requires a single shot, while Pfizer and Moderna need two doses each to complete the series.
