Inmate recovers; 8 cases active at jail
One active COVID-19 case remained among Maui Community Correctional Center inmates Thursday after one inmate recovered, the state Department of Public Safety reported.
The department also reported that 35 inmates tested negative for COVID.
There were seven active COVID cases among employees at the Wailuku jail.
The department said 255 fully vaccinated inmates had received a booster shot. On Jan. 3, the department said such inmates who chose to receive the booster shot would receive a $25 incentive payment deposited into their spendable trust accounts.
The department received approval for $615,000 in federal American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 funds to be specifically used as an incentive initiative for offenders in custody. So far $153,550 has been spent.
