The COVID-19 outbreak at the Maui Community Correctional Center increased to 187 cases on Wednesday, with the Department of Public Safety reporting positive tests for 96 inmates and one employee.
There were 38 negative test results for inmates and 26 negative test results for staff at the Wailuku jail. All inmates with active cases were in medical isolation. None were hospitalized.
The department reported that 27 inmates and one employee have recovered, resulting in 183 active inmate COVID cases and four active staff cases.
As of Monday, 322 inmates were housed at the jail, which has a design capacity of 209 and operational capacity of 301.
