Two Maui men survived a plane crash without any life-threatening injuries after their aircraft went down in the area of Hana Airport, fire officials said.

The men, 61 and 70, were aboard a small privately owned aircraft. One man was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center via Medevac and the other by ground ambulance.

Emergency crews were alerted at 9:57 a.m. and Engine 7 in Hana located the crash site in heavy foliage approximately 100 yards west of the Hana Airport runway.

One victim was able to walk away from the wreckage. The Hana fire crew utilized vehicle extrication equipment to free the second victim from entrapment within the plane, fire officials said.

The Rescue 10 crew from Kahului aboard MFD’s Air One helicopter arrived to “short haul” the second victim to awaiting paramedics on the runway at the Hana Airport.
