Lahaina’s new pier in the offing

Healy Tibbitts Builders Inc. workers attach fenders to a new section of concrete pier at Lahaina Harbor Tuesday morning. The work is part of the Lahaina Small Boat Harbor Ferry Pier Improvement Project going on roughly where the square-rigged tall ship and whaling museum, Carthaginian II, was berthed before being towed down the coast and sunk as a dive site. Work on the first phase of the project, which includes a 20-foot-wide by 115-foot-long concrete pier and new aluminum-framed gangway, is scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of this year. The second phase is scheduled be finished in October. It includes construction of a new harbor administration office on the site of the old office, which has been razed.
