The Maui County Small Business Grant Program opened to all small businesses in the county on Tuesday.
The county launched the program in early January along with several local credit unions to help small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The program, which is not an expense reimbursement program, offers a grant of $5,000 for eligible businesses. In order to qualify, businesses must:
• Be registered and active with the state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs and/or sole proprietors.
• Have $2 million or less in gross revenue in 2020 verified by the state tax form G49 (general excise/use annual return and reconciliation).
• Show a 10 percent decline in gross revenue from 2019 to 2020 verified by the state G49.
• Have a commercial location in Maui County.
• Show proof of current lease or rent agreement and proof of payment for current month (date of application, canceled check or statement).
• Certify that they have resumed commercial operations in Maui County as of the date of application.
Grants are limited to one per business owner, even if the owner has multiple businesses.
A 1099 may be issued at the end of the year; business owners should consult their tax adviser, the county said.
