Lindo named assistant chief of operations as MFD promotes 15

Henry “Hanale” Lindo has been promoted to assistant chief of operations and Jeffrey Giesea has been promoted to assistant chief of support services for the Maui Fire Department.

The department also announced the promotions to battalion chief of Lee Theros, Shawn Rogers and Alexander Parker, and the promotions to captain of Darrin Almeida, Garren Oura, Beau Gaddis, Kanoa Shannon, Anthony Twarowski, Matthew Akiona, Joseph “Ikaika” Blackburn and John Devlin.

Daniel Laferriere and Steven Graver have been promoted to firefighter III.

Lindo joined the department in 1994 and worked as a firefighter in Paia and Kahului. In 2005, he was promoted to firefighter III and worked as a fire inspector in the Fire Prevention Bureau. After being promoted to captain in 2009, he worked at Hoolehua and Kaunakakai fire stations on Molokai. Lindo was promoted to battalion chief in 2020.

In his new job, Lindo oversees operations for the department.

He is a 1990 graduate of Kamehameha Schools Kapalama. He has served as an All-Hazards Incident Management Team incident commander and liaison officer and department public education officer. Lindo also served on the Molokai Fire Task Force and Molokai Emergency Operations Center Community Team.

He and his wife, Zhantell, live in Hoolehua and have eight children and 14 grandchildren.

Giesea joined the department in 2001 and worked as a firefighter in Hana, Kihei and Wailea. After being promoted to firefighter II in 2007, he worked on a Kahului rescue crew. In 2008, he was promoted to firefighter III and worked at the Napili station. When he was promoted to captain in 2011, he worked at the Kaunakakai Fire Station, in the Health and Safety Bureau and on a Kahului Hazmat crew.

He was promoted to battalion chief in 2019 and oversaw the Ocean Safety Bureau.

In his new job, Giesea is in charge of the department’s support services personnel.

He is a 1988 graduate of Foothill High School in Tustin, Calif., a 1992 graduate of Texas Christian University and a 1995 graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He and his girlfriend, Brooke, have two children and live in Kahului.

Theros, who joined the department in 1997, worked as a firefighter in Kaunakakai and Lahaina, and again worked at those stations after being promoted to firefighter III in 2008. He was promoted to captain in 2012 and worked in Kaunakakai, Lahaina and Wailuku.

As battalion chief, he will oversee the First Battalion.

Theros is a 1983 graduate of Baldwin High School and a 1991 graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He lives in Wailuku and has one daughter.

Rogers joined the department in 1999 and worked on Lahaina engine and ladder companies. In 2005, he was promoted to firefighter II and assigned to a Kahului rescue crew. After being promoted to firefighter III in 2007, he worked in Pukoo on Molokai and in Lahaina. He was promoted to captain in 2012 and worked at Hoolehua, Kaunanakai and Napili fire stations and in the Health and Safety Bureau.

As battalion chief, he will oversee the Second Battalion.

He is a 1989 graduate of Tulelake High School in California and a 1995 graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He and his girlfriend, Jessica, live in Kahana with their three children.

Parker joined the department in 2001 and worked in Kaunakakai and Makawao. He was promoted to firefighter II in 2007 and worked on Hazmat and rescue crews in Kahului. In 2009, he was promoted to firefighter III and worked in the training bureau and in Makawao. After being promoted to captain in 2017, he worked in Kaunakakai, Lahaina and Kahului.

Parker is a 1994 graduate of Seabury Hall and 1998 graduate of the University of Hawaii in Hilo. He and his wife, Alyse, live in Kula with their child.

All of the promotions went into effect on or before Feb. 16.
