Police sobriety checkpoints set for St. Patrick’s Day

1 min read

Police traffic officers will conduct sobriety checkpoints and increase patrols for impaired driving at various locations for St. Patrick's Day today.

Increased checkpoints will continue on weekends, police said.

Motorists can expect the Maui Police Department to take a zero-tolerance approach to impaired driving, according to a police news release.

"Our goal is to promote voluntary compliance with all traffic laws and reduce motor vehicle crashes on our roadways," the release said.

Police said the public can help by planning a safe way home and designating a sober driver before starting to drink. Those who have been drinking can use a car service or taxi or call a sober friend or family member.
