Projects in the budget

Mayor Michael Victorino presented his $1 billion fiscal year 2023 budget to the Maui County Council on Thursday. It includes an operating budget of $794 million and a capital improvement projects budget of $251 million. The council will spend the next few months poring over the budget to see what it plans to cut or keep. Here are some of the funding proposals Victorino highlighted on Thursday:

• $10 million for War Memorial Gym, repairs, replacement of flooring and bleachers and installation of air conditioning.

• $7.2 million for War Memorial Stadium's track and field.

• $5 million for the West Maui recycled water expansion.

• $3.4 million to increase the county's emergency fund.

• $3.1 million for the Lahaina Wastewater Reclamation Facility R-1 process expansion.

• $1.5 million for the county's agricultural micro grants program.

• $1.3 million for agricultural promotion and technology to support the Maui Farm Bureau, Farmers Union United and Hawaii Taro Farm.

• $1 million to begin work on the extension on Imi Kala Street in Wailuku.

• $1 million for Lanai Agricultural Park.

• $450,000 for Kula Agricultural Park.

• $150,000 each for the restoration of Ka'ahumanu Church and Bailey House Museum.
