Starting March 26, the University of Hawaii Maui College and other UH campuses will eliminate some COVID-19 requirements.
Daily COVID-19 screening through the LumiSight UH health app will no longer be required.
Face masks won't be required outdoors; in common areas such as hallways, stairwells, lobbies and bathrooms, offices, eateries, libraries and bookstores; and at indoor events unless requested by organizers. Instructors also won't be required to wear face masks while teaching as long as they maintain a 6-foot distance from others.
Visitors won't be required to provide proof of vaccination or negative test results to attend campus events.
For the rest of the spring semester, face masks are required indoors in classrooms, shared laboratories, other instructional spaces and tightly confined educational spaces such as advising offices. Face masks also must be worn by anyone who tests positive for COVID, has symptoms of the virus or has been exposed to someone with the virus during the isolation or quarantine period.
Those with medical or religious exemptions from the COVID-19 vaccination requirement must continue to submit proof of a negative COVID test on the LumiSight UH app.
The changes are based on recommendations by the UH COVID-19 Health and Wellbeing Working Group, which is made up of UH medical and public health experts and UH leadership, according to a UH news release.
