The University of Hawaii Maui College's Pa'ina Food Court will reopen to the public on Wednesday through the end of the spring semester on May 4, the college announced.
Students in UH-Maui's award-winning culinary arts program will cook lunch at two food outlets -- World Plate and Paniolo Grill, whose menus will include at least one vegetarian selection, according to a news release from the college.
UH-MC students, faculty and staff have been eating lunch inside the Pa'ina Food Court for the last couple of weeks.
Chef Instructor Gary Johnson teaches the World Plate class filled with second-year students who have not been able to experience real customers yet.
"The students get a sense of pride and satisfaction being able to share their passion for food with our community," Johnson said. "And having patrons coming back to the cafeteria completes the learning process and provides a great learning environment."
Ordering for the Pa'ina Food Court must be in person. The Pa'ina Building will be open from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Customers can either preorder and prepay for pickup later, or come in at the time they would like to eat and order, pay and wait for their food. Wait times should be short as there are many food items and there will be two cashiers during lunch hours, the college said. Cash and credit cards are accepted.
