Businesses now have until April 30 to apply for $5,000 grants under the Maui County Small Business Program, the county announced Monday.
To qualify, businesses must:
• Be registered and active with the state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs and/or sole proprietors.
• Have $2 million or less in gross revenue in 2020 verified by the State of Hawaii G-49 form (general excise/use annual return and reconciliation).
• Show a 10 percent decline in gross revenue from 2019 to 2020 verified by the G-49.
• Have a commercial location in Maui County.
• Show proof of current lease or rent agreement and proof of payment for current month (date of application, canceled check or statement).
• Certify that they have resumed commercial operations in Maui County as of the date of application.
Grants are limited to one per business owner, even if the owner has multiple businesses.
A 1099 form may be issued at the end of the year; businesses should consult their tax advisers, the county said.
Maui County offers the program in collaboration with six credit unions on Maui. The program is part of the American Rescue Plan to assist small businesses in Maui County impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is not an expense reimbursement program.
