Hawaii sees little change in gas prices

Gas prices hovered at or near record levels in Hawaii over the past week, with the average regular unleaded gas price for Hawaii at $5.24, equal to the all-time record price set on Saturday, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.

Kahului’s average gas price continues to be the second highest in the state at $5.33, which is one cent higher than last week, 21 cents higher than last month and $1.56 higher than a year ago, according to the report released Thursday.

Lihue led the state with an average price of $5.46, followed by Hilo at $5.30 and Honolulu at $5.15.

“Oil prices continue to drop, but local drivers have yet to see that benefit at the pump,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.

Hawaii is more than a dollar over the average national price, which is $4.07, down eight cents from a week ago.

Starting at $4.80/week.
