Maui County Property Taxes
The Maui County Council will hold a public hearing on property tax rates at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Here are the current property tax rates compared with Mayor Michael Victorino’s proposals for fiscal year 2023 and the council’s Budget, Finance and Economic Development Committee draft proposed rates:
Owner-occupied:
• Tier 1, up to $800,000: $2.41 (current), $2.30 (mayor), $2 (committee, with a Tier 1 threshold up to $1 million)
• Tier 2, $800,001 to $1.5 million: $2.51, $2.40, $2.10 (with a Tier 2 threshold of $1,000,001 to $3 million)
• Tier 3, more than $1.5 million: $2.71, $2.71, $2.71 (with a Tier 3 threshold of over $3 million)
Non-owner-occupied:
• Tier 1, up to $800,000: $5.45 (current), $6 (mayor), $5.85 (committee, with Tier 1 up to $1 million)
• Tier 2, $800,001 to $1.5 million: $6.05, $6.50, $8 (with Tier 2 from $1,000,001 to $4.5 million)
• Tier 3, more than $1.5 million: $8, $8, $12.50 (with Tier 3 over $4.5 million)
Apartment: $5.55, $5.55, $3.50
Hotel and resort: $11.75, $10.40, $11.75
Time share: $14.60, $14.60, $14.60
Short-term rental:
• Tier 1, up to $800,000: $11.11, $11.11, $11.85
