Cyclists come together for cleanup

FIRST PHOTO: Maui Bicycling League member Jude Novotny uses a shovel to clear weeds growing onto the shared use path that parallels Maui Veterans Highway Saturday morning. The cleanup also included clearing tree limbs and brush encroaching on the path and litter pickup.  "It's nice to get out here and clean it," Novotny said. "We feel good about beautifying our island." Novotny said it was also a way for the league to show county officials that if they build paths, the community will help maintain them. "We'll take care of whatever they will provide for bikes and whatever." The event was hosted by RideSmart Maui Electric Bikes, Maui Bicyling League, Maui Metropolitan Planning Organization and Healthy Eating + Active Learning Coalition.
