Disney/Pixar’s ‘Soul’ and ‘Onward’ to screen at Starry Night Cinema
The Maui News
Disney/Pixar animated hits “Soul” and “Onward” will be the featured films at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Starry Night Cinema on May 20 and 21.
The free, two-night event is open to the public, with gates opening at 6 p.m. and the film starting at 7:30 p.m. each night, the MACC announced Tuesday.
Pixar Animation Studios’ “Soul” stars Joe Gardner (voiced by Jamie Foxx), a middle-school band teacher who gets the chance of a lifetime to play at the best jazz club in town. But one small misstep takes him from the streets of New York City to The Great Before — a fantastical place where new souls get their personalities, quirks and interests before they go to Earth. The film is rated PG and runs for one hour and 40 minutes.
Disney and Pixar’s “Onward,” meanwhile, spotlights two teenage elf brothers, Ian and Barley Lightfoot (voiced by Tom Holland and Chris Pratt), who get an unexpected opportunity to spend one more day with their late dad and embark on an extraordinary quest aboard Barley’s epic van Guinevere. The film is also rated PG and has a running time of one hour and 42 minutes.
Screenings will take place in the MACC’s A&B Amphitheater. Participants should bring a low-back beach chair and/or a blanket.
There will also be live pre-show musical entertainment by singer-songwriter Brad Kahikina, as well as a free keiki art activity and local food trucks. No coolers or outside food or beverages are allowed.
If the weather is inclement, the movie will be shown in the Castle Theater.
There are no COVID restrictions for the event.
