Blessing held for Northshore Greenway

A blessing for the Northshore Greenway that allows people to walk, jog and bike from Kahului to Paia was held Tuesday morning along Baldwin Beach Park.
The last piece of the 3-mile nonmotorized pathway was completed in April 2020 in the vicinity of the Maui Country Club Golf Course and Baldwin Beach Park, according to a news release from the county on Tuesday. However, the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the blessing by two years.
"This blessing and public recognition of the completion of this project was long overdue," Mayor Michael Victorino said. "This brings to life the dream to build a safe, family-friendly path to bicycle from Kahului to Paia."
The Rev. Kalani Wong conducted the blessing, which also included speakers Dave DeLeon, an avid bicyclist who served as an executive assistant and staffed the Mayor's Bicycle Advisory Committee under former Mayor Linda Lingle, and Saman Dias, chairperson of the Maui Bicycling League.
Phase 4 was the last phase of the project between Ulupua Place and Baldwin Beach Park. The greenway was a project by the county Department of Public Works. Hawaiian Dredging Construction was the contractor, and R.T. Tanaka Engineers was the project engineer.
