County gets ‘best tasting water’ award

1 min read

Maui County's Department of Water Supply took home top honors in a "Best Tasting Water in Hawaii" competition for its fresh water drawn from the Iao aquifer in Central Maui.

The Iao water was judged against competitors in a blind test for clarity, taste and odor during a Hawaii Rural Water Association Training and Technical Conference on May 25 in Kona.

"It takes hard work, planning and know-how to routinely deliver this precious resource to our residents," Water Supply Department Director Helene Kau said in a news release Thursday. "I thank our staff for all they do to supply clean, safe water to customers on 37,000 service accounts on Maui and Molokai."

The department will be able to compete against water from other states during the National Rural Water Association Rally in February in Washington, D.C. Those that will attend will receive a free round trip and accommodations, according to a news release.
