FIRST PHOTO: Maui-based union members and employees from Honua Ola Bioenergy on Hawaii island rally in front of the state building in Wailuku on Wednesday in protest of the state Public Utilities Commission’s 2-1 majority decision denying Honua Ola’s power purchase agreement with Hawaiian Electric. Honua Ola filed a motion for reconsideration with the PUC on June 2 that is currently under review.

SECOND PHOTO: Holding signs to show solidarity with workers on Hawaii island, Maui demonstrators were also raising concerns about the decision’s impact on jobs for local families. About 60 ILWU Local 142 members, a dozen Honua Ola employees and representatives from other unions, including IBEW 1260, participated in the rally, according to organizers.
