Ten ocean safety recruits will be assigned to lifeguarded beaches throughout Maui County after a graduation ceremony Friday for the third Ocean Safety Recruit Class.
The graduation followed a 12-week recruit training program conducted by Capt. Zach Edlao and Lt. Jon Kaneshina of the Department of Fire & Public Safety Ocean Safety Bureau.
Awards were presented to Harold Teshima for most outstanding, Travis Adler for academics and Micah Quinto for athletics. Travis White received the Surf 50 Award named in honor of the late Ocean Safety Officer Randy Hillen and presented to the recruit who displayed high moral character and exceptional attitude.
The other trainees are Mau Ah Hee, Haena Balinbin, Eliza German, Rodrigo Fanti, Miles Serafica and Freddy Stanton.
