Kahana Nui Bridge to be replaced
A portion of Lower Honoapiilani Road near the Kahana Nui Bridge will close for nearly seven months while the county replaces the bridge, the Department of Public Works announced Wednesday.
Work will include demolition and removal of the existing bridge structure and replacing it with a new bridge with driveways, curbs and sidewalks, signs and roadway striping. The project also includes work on underground utilities.
Construction is scheduled to start Tuesday and run through Jan. 27. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, except holidays. Affected residents are being informed, and electronic sign boards have been installed, the county said.
Only local traffic will be allowed up to the bridge during the closure, according to the county. Through traffic will be detoured from Hoohui Road to Napilihau Street and vice versa, using Honoapiilani Highway.
Drivers should heed traffic control signs and personnel directing traffic on-site, the county said.
Goodfellow Bros. LLC is the contractor for the $5.3 million project.
