Wailuku Hongwanji cancels bon dance
Due to continuing uncertainty over COVID-19, Wailuku Hongwanji has canceled its annual bon dance, which had been scheduled for Aug. 5-6.
Hatsubon services will still be held as scheduled at 6 p.m. on both Aug. 5 and 6, the temple announced. The memorial service allows families to reflect upon and express gratitude to those who have passed away since the last obon season.

Mission reschedules its obon service
To accommodate participants in Japan, the obon service for members and their families has been rescheduled to noon Aug. 19 at Rinzai Zen Mission in Paia.
The obon service will take place in person as well as on Zoom.
The obon dance and related festivities have been canceled this year due to health and safety concerns of church members and the public.

Bahá'í Faith forum held at Binhi At Ani
A Bahá'í Faith conference was held at the Binhi at Ani Community Center in Kahului from May 14-15, the third of four conferences that took place in Hawaii.
The Universal House of Justice, the international governing council of the Bahá'í Faith (with its headquarters located in Haifa, Israel), called for a series of global conferences.
During the conference on Maui, youth shared their energy with the large group with a rousing haka, a ceremonial Maori dance. Small and large group consultations focused on learning to share the teachings of Bahá'u'lláh and serving humanity.
Bahá'í activities are taking place in communities the world over, including in Maui County, and are open to all. Each activity, devotionals, children's classes, the junior youth spiritual empowerment program, youth and adult study circles focus on helping build vibrant communities.
