A 54-year-old man found dead in a Haiku residence on Tuesday morning has been identified as Steven Holm of Haiku, the Maui Police Department said late Thursday night.
Police said a 51-year-old Haiku man had been arrested for second-degree murder and that charges are forthcoming. The man is in police custody.
Officers responded to the Haiku home at 9:16 a.m. Tuesday to investigate a report of an unresponsive man and found Holm dead.
"Injuries to the decedent's body and crime scene evidence depicts foul play may have been involved," police said in a news release Wednesday afternoon.
Police would not say what kind of injuries were observed, whether the man was living at the residence and who called police.
According to police records, the murder was reported on Puniawa Road, which is an off-the-grid area near Twin Falls.
Police said Thursday night that the investigation is ongoing and that "no further information is available at this time.
The murder is the second this year in Maui County, following the murder last month of 42-year-old Angela Johnson. Police said she was dead when she was taken to the Kula Hospital emergency room the morning of June 19. Brian Sherrell, 54, who was in a relationship with Johnson, was indicted on a charge of second-degree murder in her killing.
