Rinzai Zen Mission in Paia has decided to cancel the dance portion of obon this year due to health and safety concerns of church members and the public.
The church will hold obon service only at 10 a.m. Aug. 20 for church members and their families.
Hopefully, obon dance and related festivities can resume next year, Rinzai Zen Mission said.
