Health centers get federal funding

Four community health centers in Maui County will receive $65,500 each “to advance health equity through better data collection and reporting,” the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced Monday.

The department, through the Health Resources and Services Administration, awarded $786,000 in American Rescue Plan funding to 12 community health centers in Hawaii.

In Maui County, the organizations receiving funding are the Hana Community Health Center, Molokai Ohana Health Care (doing business as the Molokai Community Health Center), the Lanai Community Health Center and the Community Clinic of Maui (doing business as Malama I Ke Ola Health Center).

The funding will go toward updating data collection so that health centers can better identify and respond to specific needs of patients and communities; advancing COVID-19 response, mitigation and recovery efforts; and helping prepare for future public health emergencies.
