FIRST PHOTO: Maui artist Edwin Ushiro's triptych mural, "Wailuku Ho'okele/Wailuku Wayfinders" is unveiled during a blessing ceremony on Monday evening on Market Street in Wailuku. The mural is part of the public artwork project promoted by Small Town Big Art. Ushiro's design encases water within the building's recessed window shapes in an attempt to place the viewer on the open sea, according to a Small Town Big Art news release. Each window contains an imagined constellation: Iwikuamo'o, or bone back lizard, with Hokule'a shining in orange red; Ka Lupe o Kawelo, or "The Kite of Kawelo," (lupe also means sting ray); and Ka Makau Nui o Maui -- Maui's fish hook, pictured with Maui.
