Axis deer to be discussed Monday

The Maui County Council's Infrastructure and Transportation Committee will meet at 9 a.m. Monday to discuss potential solutions and updates regarding axis deer management in the county.

There will be updates from county officials and those from the community.

Jo Ann Inamasu, director of the Office of Economic Development, will discuss axis deer relief funding. Curtis Jamison, grants management program manager for the Department of Housing and Human Concerns will discuss grant updates for axis deer relief. And Weston Yap, deputy director for the Department of Agriculture, will speak about the axis deer composting program.

Committee Chairwoman Yuki Lei Sugimura said the committee will also hear from Susie Thieman, executive director of Lokahi Pacific, on the assistance program for axis deer relief, and Kyle Caires, animal scientist at the University of Hawaii, on the Kula Agriculture Park and axis deer mitigation.
